A rite of passage, English series of novels centred on an introvert, fifteen-year-old boy called Will Houston. Like many people his age, Will is haunted by the question, “When are you going to grow up?” and with growing but suppressed anxiety about his ascent to manhood, he is sent away from the city to stay with Grandparents in the Lake District during a turbulent family time. 

It is here, with the rugged Cumbrian Lakes and fells as backdrop, that Will is stripped of the trappings of adolescence (Mobile phone & computer games etc) and absorbed into an adult’s world of high adventure and intrigue. 

Partly through the discovery of his family’s heroic legacy in the last century and partly through his bitter sweet encounters with a colourful array of local characters, our young hero starts to find real, grown-up ‘giants’ on whose shoulders he can climb in his quest for true manhood.
